The Characteristics of the vintage

In the Trapani countryside, the 2021 harvest witnessed a constant climatic trend. During the first winter months, heavy rains revitalized the soil, followed by a cool spring and a mild start to summer.

A prominent harvest, full of interesting results especially as regards the qualitative aspect of the production. The vintage was generally affected by a variable climate trend compared to 2019, with temperatures above the seasonal average – in particular between the months of January and February – and a certain drought from May to late September. These conditions slightly anticipated the budding phase, reducing the development and growth process of the foliar apparatus until flowering which, in the Trapani countryside, resulted in a lower yield (about 30%) – for white grape varieties. in particular – in favor of quality: one of the best in recent years.

The 2019 harvest is generally affected by the colder and rainier climatic trends compared to the averages of recent years. The rains distributed in winter and prolonged until late spring, with temperatures also below average and, above all the prevalence of winds from the north – sometimes even sustained, delayed budding and moved forward the whole process of development and growth of the ” foliar apparatus until flowering which, in the Trapani countryside led to a decrease in production: the vegetative delay, in fact, due to the drop in temperatures after the flowering phase did not allow the development of large clusters but favored an increase of average quality.

Vintage 2018 in Trapani began with frequent and constant rains, and then stabilized during the final phase of grape ripening, with temperatures on average cooler than in 2017 and with good temperature variations between day and night.

In 2017, the climate trend led to a regular vegeto-production cycle. At the beginning of summer, thanks to a good vegetative curve, the plants presented themselves in excellent phytosanitary conditions.

Complicated vintage, fall 2014 is characterized by hot weather and few rainfalls. These climate conditions caused the appearance of remarkably reduced natural turfing rich in microterms ( species growing thanks to low temperatures). Natural and cultivated seed plants seem to be in late. Winter beginning is cold with strong spore abatement due to the huge humidity of spring 2015. ApprofondisciThis fact decreases initial microbial charge and the virulence of pathogens in their first development steps (April).
