THE SICILIAN WINERY OBTAINS ISO 50001:2011 CERTIFICATION

FOR MAXIMASING ENERGY EFFICIENCE

Tailoring efforts makes the differnce in the matter of environmental safeguarding helding high quality standards at the base of production perspectives. This philosophy sums up Firriato’s approach to winemaking, for which the winery is accountable for future generations.

Recently, the Sicilian winery has obtained the ISO 50001:2011 certification for maximasing energy efficiency in winemaking thanks to innovative management tools adopted for environmental safeguarding linked also to agricultural guidelines strinctly complied with.  According to the DNV – GL, one of the most international accredited registrar and classification society, Firriato has improved its performances by reducing energy resources capacity rationally using renewable energy.

The ISO 50001: 2011 Certification provides an incentive for organizations to use energy efficiently, to conserve resources and to minimize the impact on climate change. ISO 50001 is a voluntary program calling for the establishment of sustainable energy management systems. Starting with an assessment of current sources of electricity supply and use, a plan can be formulated that is monitored by the certification body.  This oversight can result in the improvement of the efficiency and consumption of electricity.  Additional improvement considerations are the installation of mini wind generators and photovoltaic panels on viticulture estates
