Organic farming from Baglio Sorìa wins a gold medal in Germany

CÆLES Syrah is one of the trio of wines from Firriato’s Organic line. This is the result of the sensible choice of one of Sicily’s historic wine families who, no ifs, ands or buts, decided to convert their vineyards (about 380 hectares across six different estates) to certified organic viticulture.

At Baglio Sorìa, Firriato’s largest estate, the Di Gaetano family launched a major wine project focusing on organic wine-making. The Organic line consists of three single-variety wines: Syrah, Nero D’Avola and Catarratto. The long rows of vines stretch across a hilly area between Mount Erice and Paceco’s lake, few miles from the Trapani salt pans. Baglio Sorìa seamlessly combines the beauty of the landscape and utmost respect for the surrounding environment.

When quality is synonymous with biodiversity

In Europe, Germany is definitely a wine market where focus on quality organic wines has been increasing over time, so as to become one of the reference countries in the world: an achievement that marries the identity of wine-producing territories to a farming system that cares for the environment and enhances quality. The International organic wines award, now in its sixth edition, gave new and important rewards to Firriato, whose CÆLES Syrah won a prestigious gold medal with a score of no less than 95 points. Only quality wines made from grapes grown under EU-approved organic farming practices were admitted to the Award. The 2015 edition broke all previous record: 220 producers from 20 countries accounting for a total 923 wines competing. The jury made up of wine professionals ranked each wine according to the PAR system, a strict evaluation method developed by oenologist Martin Darting that takes into account three components: Product, Analysis, Ranking.

Every sip of CÆLES Syrah gives a genuine taste of Sicilian nature. It is a wine with fruity veins whose production process uses exclusively endogenous yeasts selected by Firriato’s skilled winemakers. The end result is characterised by an elegant nuance intensely recalling berries and floral notes to enhance the refined bouquet. CÆLES Syrah is noticeably marked by ripe and intense fruit that immediately recalls the pristine nature of a land were grapes have been grown for thousands of years.
