The Gambero Rosso 2021 Guide rewards with the maximum rating Ribeca 2015, Perricone in purity, a relic vine recovered from Firriato

Firriato’s great commitment to protecting and safeguarding the heritage of native Sicilian vines continues. In particular, the decades-long work of recovering Perricone, of which Firriato has selected its own clone, today obtains a further prestigious recognition. The Ribeca 2015 DOC Sicilia in fact wins the Gambero Rosso Tre Bicchieri 2021. A red wine with an unrepeatable character that, from the first moment, captivates the curiosity and pleasantness of those who have the privilege of enjoying it in small sips.

The marvellous fine bouquet of Ribeca is extremly linked  to the uniqueness of its grapes, grown in the Pianoro Cuddìa estate, in the Trapani countryside: an area characterized by particularly favorable pedoclimatic conditions – clayey calcareous soil and semi-desert, dry and ventilated climate – which have enhanced the qualities of this grape variety symbol of the Sicilian winemaking tradition.

Thanks to Firriato’s clone, the result is a wine characterized by fresh and overwhelming tannins that highlight the elegance and sumptuousness of a red that knows it possesses an inimitable charm. Its fruit is energetic and ambitious, totally balanced with a contained and pleasant acidity. The complexity of its bouquet offers the captivating discovery of delicate tones of blackberry, plum and morello cherry, accompanied by empathic nuances of licorice, ginger, cloves and juniper berries: a richness that is unparalleled and smells of Sicilianity.

“This coveted recognition fills us with pride – declares Federico Lombardo di Monte Iato, COO of Firriato – because it can show the great teamwork of our company. As a matter of fact, Ribeca represents the perfect synthesis of the symbiosis that exists between the commitment in the vineyard, essential to produce an excellent raw material, and the work in the cellar, precious to reveal and enhance what nature has shaped during the growth phase. and ripening of the bunches “.
