Zibibbo

“Dry grape” is what the Arabs who imported Zabib called it; from which the etymological evolution of its name is easily deducible. Notably widespread in the Mediterranean basin, the Zibibbo plant expresses its maximum potential on Sicilian land. The other name by which it is known, ‘Moscato di Alessandria’, shows that it should also be considered a variety of Egyptian origin. In the old capital of the Ptolemaic kingdom ancient documentary evidence of its use in viticulture has been found.
