Grillo

Moments of crisis also often bring with them unexpected opportunity. Those who planted Grillo to replace vines left terribly devastated by phylloxera attacks in the Marsala area, could never have imagined that in a short time it would be widespread across all the provinces on the island. New DNA studies have shown that this vine variety, that by now has been cultivated in the province of Trapani for more than a century, is the result of a cross between Catarratto and Zibibbo, two other typical Sicilian vine varieties.
